Maria Island Field Study, Tasmania | 2008 | C Type photogram | 40 x 45 cm
A photogram records the object by the shadow it casts. It is dependant on the physical qualities of light and the object, the moth. The photogram here is a shadow of something that once was, that is now past, that is dead and static – hollow and fragile. On both Maria Island and Waddamana in Tasmania I was struck by how scarred and damaged the landscape is from our actions and how remnants of the past are scattered throughout the space. This is perhaps a more delicate approach to these issues as I use the moth to represent the vulnerability of these landscapes.
